Ben Sims
A professional furniture maker, trained at the renowned Chippendale International School of Furniture, I am located in East Lothian.
My passion for the craft formed from an early age. I have worked with many different design processes over the years, and I strive to create beautiful works of art which last for generations.
My Story
I believe strongly in quality design and powerful storytelling which bring a concept to life, giving it a personality through careful selection of the right materials and processes.
From conception to project completion, quality is a top priority to ensure that I deliver a product that will be cherished by my clients for a lifetime and beyond. My approach combines design inspiration from natural themes with refined woodworking techniques and an always unique approach to provide a truly stunning, custom, visual, and practical work of art for my clients.

Listen. Bring clients into the creative process.
Quality. This is at the core of every work I produce.
Get inspired. Create something truly new & unique.
Collaborate. Big things can’t be done alone.
Create. Finding creative ways to craft quality.
Approach
The crafting process is made up of thorough consulting, planning, quality materials, and precise execution. From A to Z, my collaborative approach draws on the skills and expertise built from years of working with clients and collaborating with other industry professionals from an early age.
Services
Design
The design process, if done correctly, ensures that an idea comes to life accurately and stunningly.
I involve and inform my clients of the best approaches to a design as well as guiding them through the selection of the right woods and materials which suit their needs and style. The honest communication provided throughout the process ensures that the work exceeds expectations when presented upon completion.
Restoration
I work passionately with clients to restore cherished works that have lost their original beauty or perhaps need a complete reworking. These kinds of projects can often be the most rewarding as the joy brought from bringing quality craftsmanship back to its former glory is something truly special.
Bespoke
Each work that I produce is truly a one-off, custom piece.
The meticulous nature of design and planning as well as the many methods of etching, guilding, finishing, wood-selection and veneer, among many others, ensure that every project I produce makes the most of the natural beauty that is found when allowing the grains and the differing qualities of the wood to be in focus.
Gilding
Gilding allows for the ornamental elements of design to shine, quite literally. I work with styles ranging from gold leaf, to copper and silver as well as forming acidic reactions to create curving metallic visuals which spark conversation, capture the eye, and enhance quality.
See some examples of this in some of my projects pictured here on this website.
